“Free Soul” is the culmination of years of study and practice across a broad spectrum of various disciplines.
My earliest interest and training was in music. During school I studied violin seriously for ten years, had classical voice training and pursued choir singing. After finishing Gymnasium in Germany, searching which direction to go in, I trained and worked in an architects office for nine months, then studied Psychology, Anthropology and Art History at the University of Hamburg.
Ultimately I became a student of Fine Arts. I first studied in Hamburg, then in New York City and finally in Duesseldorf. My teachers were Almir Mavignier, Richard Pousette D’art and Jan Dibbets. Soon my abstract paintings explored the language of color, the stories of color impact, the dynamics of color relationships and the poetry of shapes. I took part in a number of group exhibitions and had a one woman gallery show in Duesseldorf in 1990.
A new field of passionate interest emerged after the birth of my second daughter in 1992. I stopped painting for the first time in 15 years and began studying and practicing several different forms of healing arts and energy work, including Reiki, Shamanic Healing Techniques, Hypnotherapy, Nutrition and Feng Shui.
I was also drawn to explore how to resolve relationship challenges, both between parent and child, as well as between spouses or partners. I ran private toddler parenting classes for 2 years in the early 90s, and dedicated my own personal work in therapy to transforming the quality of close relationships in my own life.
Between 1990 and 1999 I oversaw the entire renovation of two Houses in Columbia County. Our current home was featured in “Elle Decor”, the “Australian Vogue”, and the British “Homes & Gardens”. In 2000 I opened “ Von Haeften Antiques” in Hudson, a branch of New York City’s “Coconut Company”, and ran it for 17 months.
It wasn’t until the spring of 2003 that I finally decided to make my healing services and home consultations my only source of income, to give it my full focus and creative energy, and to let go of all other attempts to find a ‘proper job’. Initially that included custom created "energy artwork", an area that now lies dormant. During that year I also started applying my knowledge and my intuition to working with animals, somewhat surprised to find that I could communicate with them on a deep soul level. In 2004 I worked at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health for 9 months, offering the Soul Retrieval work in their healing arts department as ‘ceremonies of the soul’. I was also an affiliated member at the Chrysalis Center for Healing in Troy for over a year.
My latest and most exciting discovery and addition to my group of healing services is Journeywork, which I started practicing in November 2004. I enrolled in the Journey Accreditation Program in February of the following year and have been fully accredited since Dec 2006. My private practice here in Columbia County has been growing steadily. By now 95% of my work consists solely of doing the Journey. Twice a year I travel to Germany to work with clients in my old home town of Hamburg, an opportunity and experience I am deeply grateful for.
